Our newly-refined VOICES FROM INSIDE PROGRAM is an outgrowth of our 20+ years of experience working with incarcerated and system-engaged youth and our ongoing collaboration with the Arts for Incarcerated Youth Network, of which we are a founding member. Designed to augment L.A. County Probation’s innovative new “L.A. Model” for juvenile justice reform, this innovative program combines in-class and after-school theatre-arts education with trauma-informed healing practices to provide standards-based theatre-arts education and mentoring to the county’s most hardened minors.   TIME TBD   *US invited guests are required to be cleared by Probation to attend the public performance. San Fernando High School students will perform their originally-written play from Fall 2018, “Because of Bo’s Light.” Synopsis: A young boy and his sister, along with their friends, embark on a journey to defeat a cruel and ruthless tyrant. In this original story of good vs. evil, Bo and his sister Mary must find their way to villainous Eris’ castle and try to stop her before she does irreparable damage to the planet. Along the way, they learn that sometimes life doesn’t go as planned, and even superheroes need a little help now and then. Admission is free and open to the public. No RSVP is necessary.

Edison Middle School students will perform their originally-written play from Fall 2018, “The Magical Misadventures in Woodland.” Synopsis: Once upon a time, a family lived in Woodland. The mother Rosa is very sick and and the medical bills keep stacking up. In desperation, her husband Cornello secretly gathers some of his friends to form a hunting club in order to sell fox fur for money. Meanwhile, the fox family in the forest grapples with the threat to their community with the help of Giselle, an orphan girl with magical powers who they adopt. Connected by friendships, dreams, and love and loyalty to family, Giselle and brothers Alex and Matthew embark on a journey to save all of their loved ones. Admission is free and open to the public. No RSVP is necessary.

Sepulveda Middle School students will perform their originally-written play from Fall 2018, “The Elemental Journey.” Synopsis: In a magical world full of wizards, minions, and talking castles, a young wizard named Margarette is cursed on her birthday by an evil witch, becoming a werewolf! Many years later, she has learned to split time between her human and wolf families, while her brother, Hydro, trains at Wizard Camp. When the witch returns and diminishes the powers of every wizard in the world, Hydro and his friends embark on a quest to restore everyone’s powers by winning the Weather Wizard’s Tournament. The ultimate prize: The winner’s greatest wish. The witch, who wants to rule the world, tricks Hydro, turning him into her Ultimate Wizard so he can win the tournament for her. Neighborhood Voices Performance

Students, parents, and elders come together for our community based, intergenerational playwriting and performance workshop. Our intergenerational Neighborhood Voices program is a 12-week intensive workshop that brings parents and adult community members together to create & perform their own modernized fable alongside their children and other youth from their community. The unique experience provides valuable mirroring & mentoring opportunities for the underserved youth who are the focus of our work. TIME TBD Admission is free and open to the public. Markham Middle School students will perform their originally-written play from Fall 2018, “Time is Ticking: The Adventures of So’lana.” Synopsis: A young witch named So’lana King has the dream of becoming a singer. So’lana has her heart set on going to The University of the Arts, and she has been working hard to prepare for her college audition. So’lana is on the brink of her 18th birthday when, unbeknownst to herself, she will inherit a full set of magical powers passed down to her from her mother, Vanessa. Vanessa has knowingly withheld these magical secrets from her loved ones resulting in her own abduction, the failure of So’lana’s college audition, and time itself being thrown out of whack to correct her mistake.
