San Fernando High School Performance of “Shamed Love, Runaways and Time Machines”

The talented Unusual Suspects high-school participants at San Fernando High School have written an original play that they will perform in a free public performance on Friday, April 1st! A brave boy and his sick traveling companion, a ten-year-old girl, fight for survival in a war-torn future. The resource wars have ravaged the planet and civilization has crumbled. The very future of the human race is at stake, and the odds are not in our favor. But there is hope: a chance discovery and some yet-to-be-invented technology presents itself. There is only one chance: Daniel Augustus must travel back in time and change his past to save our future. Meanwhile, two teenage girls living in our time, with troubled home lives and dark secrets, flee to New York City to follow their dream of becoming scientists. A philanthropic billionaire, a brilliant inventor and three brave young crusaders race against the clock…

Neighborhood Voices Intergenerational Performance

As part of The Unusual Suspects’ Neighborhood Voices Program, a group of Northeast San Fernando Valley community members, ages 14 and up, will write an original play that speaks to issues they see in their community. The group will perform the play on Thursday, April 21, 2016. Immediately following the performance, The Unusual Suspects will facilitate an interactive, bilingual discussion regarding the play’s themes. *Free childcare will be provided at the Neighborhood Voices performance on April 21st.

Vaughn Middle School Performance of “When The Light Fades: Journey Through the Dark Side”

The talented Unusual Suspects middle-school participants at the Vaughn Next Century Learning Center have written an original play that they will perform in a free public performance on Friday, April 29th! Hazel is determined to be a Broadway star and will stop at nothing to achieve her dreams, but family secrets and mysterious shadows are trying to stop her. When Hazel is kidnapped by the Master Shadow who is trying to steal her magic powers, her father, Zeus, a demigod, leads her twin siblings, Chase and Grace, her best friend Ivan, and their dog Fluffy on a mission to save Hazel before the Shadows can get Hazel’s powers and dreams, plunging the world into darkness.

In present day Compton, a single mother struggles to make sure her teenage children are on the right track. When she discovers a tragedy in her daughter’s life, the entire family struggles to make good decisions.

Page Play Reading at Camp David Gonzales

The talented Unusual Suspects minors at Camp David Gonzales have written an original play that will be read during a Page Play on Friday, June 10th and Saturday, June 11th! In an exciting partnership with LA County Probation Camp David Gonzales, The Unusual Suspects are leading a 10-week writing workshop where incarcerated youth are working together to write their original play. A Page Play is the culminating presentation of our Writing Program. Professional actors will perform the youth’s original play with scripts in hand, while the students take the stage to talk about how they wrote the play together using improvisation and writing exercises. **Stay tuned for more details on how to RSVP for this moving event.

The talented Unusual Suspects minors at Camp David Gonzales have written an original play that they will perform on Friday, August 19th and Saturday, August 20th! In an exciting partnership with LA County Probation Camp David Gonzales, The Unusual Suspects are leading a 10-week performance workshop in which incarcerated youth are working together to perform an original play that they wrote earlier this spring. **This event is closed to the public, but join our mailing list to make sure you get photos from the performance.
