The mission of The Unusual Suspects is to mentor, educate, and enrich underserved youth through the creation of collaborative, original theatre. Over our 26-year history, US has become a recognized leader in the fields of arts education, youth development, mentorship, and community building and 100% of the participants we serve come from low income families and neighborhoods, including incarcerated youth. As proud board members of The Unusual Suspects, we have witnessed time and time again how the act of writing and telling stories leads to remarkable improvement in academic, social and coping skills -with many of our alumni going on to lead successful career and personal lives.
We serve 1500+ underserved participants a year with our award-winning theatre-arts mentoring programs at no cost to them, and the need continues to grow – – more critical now than ever before. To sustain these free programs, we made a commitment to raise at least $5,000 during our Gala season (in addition to our own contribution). With your incredibly generous help, we’ve surpassed our initial goal — and have now decided to double it!
At our 11th Annual Gala on May 7th, in celebration of our 26th year anniversary, we are proud to be honoring Laura Leigh Hughes (Founder/Actress), Malcolm Mays (Actor/Filmmaker) and Nina Tassler (Producer, Author, Activist/Former Chairman CBS Entertainment) & Jerry Levine (Actor/Filmmaker) at the Avalon Hollywood. We’d love for you to join us there, but if you can’t attend, a contribution of ANY amount makes an impact.
Thank you in advance for your generosity!
