The Unusual Suspects conducts bi-annual teaching artist trainings geared to both the novice and experienced master teaching artist. Teaching artists are exposed to US’s nationally recognized methodology and curricula which has been refined by professional artists, mentors and arts educators over 30 years.
Teaching artists develop strategies and skills to guide youth and community members to create a safe space for participants to explore personal and social conflicts and develop self-esteem, communication and collaborative theatre art making skills. The trainings include guest speakers in the areas of child psychology and social and emotional development.
Mock classroom situations are provided to help teaching artists develop team teaching strategies, provide assessment tools, and expand their theatre making and improvisational skills.
Teaching artists learn to structure lesson plans by incorporating scaffold learning outcomes, which lead to student transformation and discovery.
